When the idea first came to me to open a nursery, I was running a large landscape company in Durango.  Good plant material, native and xeric plants, bulk soils and mulches, water feature products, and hardscape choices were hard to come by.  To get materials for a job would take hours if not days of travel time for either my crew or me to shop, pick up, and deliver products to the job site.  It became obvious to me that this was a very inefficient system.  I thought there should be one place to go for everything. 

Ten years ago I started looking for the land to build a nursery on, and quickly found our current location.  It was the perfect site with 6 acres of undeveloped land with water rights from the Animas River, just south of the town of Durango.  I knew Durango was going to grow, and I thought a nursery that had perennials, shrubs, large trees, bulk products, and a full rock yard all in one place would be very successful.

After a few years of planning, I knew it was time.  In 2003 I stopped landscaping and opened Durango Nursery and Supply, Inc. At first I thought the business was going to be limited to contractors, but I was wrong.  Immediately, home owners with their “can-do” attitudes started coming in wanting our full range of products for their own home projects. The business grew quickly, but we would be nothing without the dedicated employees who have believed in the idea that we wanted to put people in touch with their landscape by offering exceptional plant material and landscape products every day for every project.
