If the weather permits, start hardscaping, amendment application fruit tree pruning, fire mitigation, and preparing garden beds or greenhouses.
|
Early - Mid MarchApprox. Mar. 5 - Mar. 19: Time to sow Celery, Onion, and Rosemary seeds inside. Sow seeds that require to be sown 12 weeks before average final frost date.
Wake up the landscape with essential cleaning such as Ornamental Grass haircuts, removal of damaged or broken limbs, and Fruit Tree Pruning. Mar. 17th: St. Patrick's Day Pea and Cabbage seeds planted on this day are prosperous. Start looking for crocus, daffodil, Forsythia, currants, and fruit tree blooms. |
Dry & Cold!
Plants will struggle to stay hydrated. Water at least every 3 or 4 weeks but give more frequent attention to any transplants from the year. Don't forget to show your xeric landscapes love as well. Plan on watering on Holidays as it is a great way to remember and space out watering appropriately. Use baking timers or halftimes as timers for your hoses outside. During winters with these conditions, please focus on watering. |
Cold & Wet, but minimal snow
Soil building and Hardscaping can make the best of a slushy spring. Add a layer of mulch to protect the plants and soil from losing natural moisture. Have a Bucket of Gravel on standby to build traction when the slush freezes. We sell gravel by the bucket and in bulk! These winters are an opportunity to discover what hardscaping projects may be necessary. Hang on to your Top Soil! |
Snow! Snow! Snow!
When snowpack is so consistent that you cannot see or get to plants underneath you may forego winter watering. Avoid placing Gravel in locations that will require frequent shoveling as that can add extra weight. During these conditions, soak it up! Lay down seeds, mulch, and soil amendments before heavy snows and let the snow do all the work! |
Spring~ March 20th - June 20th
